How come North Korea or (Democratic People's Republic of Korea)'s name is said that is a Democratic nation, but clearly it is exactly the opposite. The same thing with Laos which is Lao People's Democratic Republic.

Do they think they are fooling people? plz answer with as much elaboration as possible with your knowledge of politics and government and book smarts.

  1. You have china right up there, with their weird government acting as if they were god. Who the h**l do they think they are, expelling ppl from there & forbidding ppl to protest about their invasion of Tibet. It`s all BS, & I`d like to see their d**n government up-rooted/overthrown, s***w china. Ha!

  2. Yes, they think they are fooling people.

It's was that way all over the Communist world. The Deutches Demokratic Republic. The People's Republic of China. It was totally Orwellian.

    You just noticing that?

  3. ilitrt i love your answer, its true. the countries are basically "lying" to people by giving them such name. for example: the republica bolivariana de venezuela (or bolivarian republic of venezuela) isnt really a republic. it was supposed to be a democracy but the president changed it to make it seem more "of the people" when in fact the man is acting like a dictator. dont let the names of the countries fool you. no one wants to put "a.s..shole" in their name

  4. Same with China.  And we're at their olympics, the president went there, and we have a huge crippling trade deficit with them...after all of their atrocities against their own citizens--that's horrible!

  5. thats what soscialists are in theory, look at Russia a known communist country but its goverement is acually called the soscialists and China, 'The peoples republic of China' i aggre with you there just trying to prove to there country there as free as Westernt countries with quick properganda, the real democratic countrys are few, like the UK, USA, France and most europian countrys, but compared to the rest there are very few democratic

  6. I think the better distinction is between totalitarian and democratic. Lots of totalitarian countries employ fake elections and other tactics to try to seem democratic. Of the many which do this, only a few are communist as well.
