How does it work? What is it for? Is it possible for me to get a degree there instead of transfering to a University or some other college? Im interested in becoming a Paralegal or an Executive Assistant. Do i have to take the SAT/ACT to go to a community college, Have good grades in High School?

Do the test and the grades apply only if transfering to a Cal State University? Can i still get into a Cal State University

if idon't take the SAT/ACT test and or don't have the grades. The requirements for a Cal State University are to have no "D"s and have taken those test (SAT/ACT) with a specific score, but do these requirements still aplly if i attend a community college? I have four "D"s at this point and im going to be a senior next school year. If i attend a community college and plan to transfer afterwards to a Cal State University can i make up those "D"s there at the community college?

Sorry for so many questions in one.......explain clearly PLEASE.

  1. OK- most CC only need you to have a HS degree to be accepted in.  Once you have been at a CC and  have 60 credits you can transfer into a 4 year College without your HS transcripts. Which means the 4 year college isn't even going to see any of your HS grades. If you have less than 60 credits (this is standard, but may vary with each college) they will need your HS transcripts also. Most 4 years colleges do not require an ACT/SAT score for transfer students. Most 4 year colleges will accept a transfer student with a 2.0, which is a C average. And classes with a D will not transfer.

If you do get a D in a CC class, retake the class. If you do better the D is replaced by the better grade. If you are getting a F in a CC class drop it ASAP so it doesn't show up on your transcripts.

There are two year degrees in many areas. Check out the CC for complete 2 year degree majors.

It is easier to transfer into a 4 year college as a junior. They have already had students drop out in freshman and sophomore year, so there are openings they are trying to fill. Plus CC tuition is cheaper.

My son is transfering from a CC to a 4 year college this summer. So we have been checking it out.
