  1. I volunteer for a local Hospice agency. Check them out in your area.  It is a very rewarding experience to know you helped making a sick person a little less frightened and lonely in their last stages of life.  Sometimes you just can sit next to them and not have to talk. Just your presence soothes them.  Good luck!

  2. helping someone in need wedding a garden for an elderly just spending time with them for a few my husbands grandma is 92 well she still goes for walks every morning but sometimes she just needs someone to talk to cause shes home alone all day..finding a local diability center and helping them.

  3. Working with your parents (as long as you don't get paid) counts. When I was in middle school, I did a few different things.

I cleaned up my neighbour's yard once a week for about an hour. I also helped her take her groceries in (she was elderly, and needed help).

Alot of my hours were from staying after school. I would ask my favorite teachers if they needed help doing anything (grading papers, cleaning up their room, etc.) and if they did I would stay an hour after school to help them out. You can even ask a friend to do this with you so it's more fun.

  4. No.  Unpaid work is not the same as community service - the only people that would profit from your work would be the business owners.  Just donating money usually doesn't count, either - you provide a benefit to someone in need, but you are not actually providing the "service" yourself.

You have to actually spend time and energy doing something the benefits a community.   Usually an organization needs to verify that you have acutally worked those hours, so it isn't like you can just do it on your own without telling anyone.

There are lots of fun things you could do - think about what interests and passions you have, about which causes mean the most to you.

-You could improve literacy by tutoring children at under-performing schools, or by organizing a reading circle at your library.

-Beautify the neighborhood by picking up trash at a local park, river, or highway, or planting trees and flowers.

-Volunteer at an animal shelter, getting cats and dogs ready for adoption.

-Spend time at a nursing home keeping senior citizens company.

-Organize fundraising events like car washes and bake sales for charity.

-Habitat for Humanity, American Red Cross, or a local church group

  5. I commend you for your belonging to the National Junior Honor Society. My daughter also belonged while in school. But, have you given any thought to volunteer work at a nursing home, or assisted living center. These places are always looking for young people to help out in their activities. And, believe me, our older generation really does appreciate seeing young people. Another thing you might be interested in is volunteering with your county library or youth athletic groups. Check them out, too. Good luck in your endevors.
