I am in a management class at a university. One of the assignment is to form a group with classmates and do some community service with which we can practice our management skills such as planning, organizing, implementing, and controlling. We have 5 members in our team. Any good ideas?

  1. It usually works better to start close to home and you haven't mentioned a thing about where that might be. What kind of groups do your team members belong to? Churches? A kid sister in the Girl Scouts? Civic Groups? If you can start with a group you're already involved with, so much the better.

Look around you and see what the needs are. Ask the local activists what they need. Fundraisers? A field trip for the scouts? A mission trip for a church? A website for a volunteer center? A community awareness event?

  2. Matching volunteers, including yourselves, to needs in your community would be a good way; most areas have nothing like a clearing house. for people or products. (Money-raising activities are, sorry, a dime a dozen.) You could also volunteer with  smaller community service agencies to trouble-shoot their logistical bottlenecks. A transportation system to get willing volunteers to the places that need their help is a need in most towns.
