Question:

Community Servie Alpha Kappa Alpha?

I am interested in becoming a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha, and have done several small projects of community service. However, my longest ongoing community service project has been with a church owned and pastored by a close relative. When submitting my information, will this be looked down upon because it is signed and submitted by a family member with the same last name?? (Church is incorporated, official business). Just wondering if I need to branch out and try to get service outside of family owned businesses.

  1. Hello,

I am pleased to hear that you are interested in the best sorority on the planet LOL!

But on a serious note, as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for almost 10yrs I can say that I don't think that your community service efforts will be looked down upon in any way.

I also don't think it's a bad idea to branch out and perform service projects in other places.  But let me make something certainly clear, and that's the fact that Alpha Kappa Alpha is all about being supreme in service to ALL mankind.

We appreciate and love service performed at all levels.  I can't imagine one of my sorors looking down on someone because of the type of service that was performed.

The point of engaging in service is to actually do it, which from what you've written here seems like something that you do quite regularly.

    Good luck.

  2. I would do some community service outside your church. We want to see if you can work with in different settings. Some ideas would be:

    tutoring programs

    big sister/big brother

    candy stripper

    soup kitchen

    St. Vincent De Paul

    homeless shelters

    animal shelters
