Question:

Community service ideas? (required for school)?

my school requires us to do like 20 hours of community service a year. and it's getting a little late in the school year, and i've only done, like, 7. and those 7 hours i did through school.

i would just go do whatever my friends are doing, but they want us to go out and do our own thing and maybe pick one service to dedicate our time to (because we'll have to do more hours all through high school).

so... how do i pick one specific group to volunteer for? i'm hoping to find a place with other ppl my age so i won't be totally bored and do something i'm somewhat interested in (some of my interests are sports, little kids, and animals). i'm really good at raising money for things, and doing door-to-door type stuff, so maybe i could do something involving that (when i was in girl scouts i always sold the most cookies in my troop, lol).

any ideas??

  1. add a pure heart in all your efforts

  2. A good place to start is through your local 4-H club or cooperative extension service. Hopefully you have one of these in your county. The number should be listed along with other county agencies, like the animal shelter or things of that nature. Someone there can probably provide you with a number of groups or organizations that you can help out at. Through my 4-H club, I've done things from working at the food shelter to creating bags full of supplies and brochures for young mothers. If not, there's usually churches and shelters, especially in urban areas, that are ALWAYS in need of assistance.

  3. If you can handle a bunch of younger kids, you may want to look for a local Boys and Girls Club.  Most cities and towns have them and they generally always need an extra hand.

The Club I volunteer in has a homework time and there are usually quite a few younger kids (1st, 2nd and sometimes 3rd grade) who need someone to listen to the them read and not enough staff members to listen to all of them.  And it is generally only 30 to 60 minutes a day and not too long after school gets out.  You could volunteer to go in 1 to 5 days a week for X amount of time.

You can also find church groups who do these type of programs, or even some schools offer an after school time - so check out your local elementary schools too.

    Good Luck!

  4. The local thrift shop might LOVE to have your help, and you might get to take home a few cool things.

The local volunteer firehouse or ambulance may have a truck you can help them clean, or something similar. Lots of firehouses also have bingo night. Maybe you can help out there. They may sell raffle tickets, which you might be good at.

See if any local churches would like you to commit to some project or other. I'm sure they'd come up with one specifically for your purpose....even if it's babysitting Sunday mornings.

Try the local hospital or clinic.

Pick a job and offer to do it. Before you know it, it'll be time for starting to do some landscaping/yardwork...you might be interested in doing that.

  5. Why not help at your local community caring center.Or if you like lil kid's why not babysit if u call that community service.
