  1. I don't know - why ARE you obligated? Did you commit a crime?

  2. You didn't give any details so I will give you a general answer.

I think a lot of people would say respect is a key to feeling obligated to somethings and the other would be doing the right thing.

Most people feel obligated to help others if they have been helped by the person who has helped them in the past.

If you have done something wrong you are obligated to make it right or at least try to fix it as best you can.

  3. community service should not be looked upon as an obligation. It is a volunteer position.

As a member of a community you should feel a need or a want to contribute to that community. To help maintain the balance in the community. Lets say that if no one volunteered to help plan the parade for your community would it get done? NO.

If no one volunteered at your local hospital and the nurses all had to run and fetch things for the patients would you be getting the same quality nursing care? NO

These are just a few examples of what would happen without volunteers. These areas may not interest you... find something that you enjoy doing (for me it is archery) and find a way to turn it into a volunteer opportunity for your community. (I coach 2 different youth archery programs in my community and volunteer for a national organization that does an outdoors weekend for disadvantged youth not to mention that I am also on the commitee for our local Boy Scout Troop as a merit badge councilor and fund raising chair). Yes it takes time and effort to volunteer but you will find that it is time very well spent, instead of wasted sitting in front of the TV or playing video games.
