  1. Why do you need another camera?

You have four digital point and shoot cameras, and a digital SLR camera. Unless you collect cameras, i don't think you need another one. Also, you don't need to spend $450 on a point and shoot camera, with that money, you can get a really nice lens for your D40. In my opinion, getting a point and shoot would be a complete waste of money. You can replace your 18-55mm lens with an 18-200mm VR lens so you Zoom out further, and get clearer photographs.

If you don't trust taking your digital SLR outside for some reason ( i do it all the time, and nothing ever happened to it ) Just take one of your four point and shoot cameras. There's no need To purchase another camera, get this lens, that's your money's worth:

  2. Why not have a look at www.dpreview.com - I've found their reviews really helpful when I have been buying cameras.

I guess we all get them with different preferences and usages in mind so unless WE shared that I'm not sure my recommendations would be that helpful!

Might be worth taking a look at one of the little Canons though - I do have one of the IXUS range and really love it.  The picture quality is comparable to my Panason FZ18 (although it is nowhere near as technical!)

  3. I use my SLR for taking quality photos, but it's bigger and heavier so I can't always have a camera with me. Because I always like to have a camera with me I got the Canon SD1000. It's really small so I just carry it in my pocket all of the time. The pictures aren't amazing compared to the SLR but any camera is better than no camera.

P.S. I agree, why get a 4th P&S? I'm sure a charity would love that money if you're so desperate to part with it.

  4. I'd go for the Canon G9 .. it has full manual controls over aperture, shutter speed and ISO as well as it shoots RAW.
