Question:

Compact fluorescent bulbs going out?

We have replaced almost all the light bulbs in our home with these new bulbs. Problem is, they are starting to go out. We got them About half a year ago, they are supposed to last "5-7 years". Most recently, we bought a pack of them, and out of the three, only one worked...What are we doing wrong to make these bulbs a total waste of money? Three bulbs have gone out, this really bums me out because i thought i was helping the enviroment, and saving money, well, so much for that?

  1. If you are using CFL's PLEASE STOP!!  Take the time to watch this video about CFL's.  And please share it with others.  It is truly an eye opener!

  2. Most compact fluorescent bulbs are made with so much surface glass that it's prone to damage. If the glass feels loose or you see hairline cracks on the top curl of the bulb, take it back to the store where you purchased it from.

True, I have never gotten 5-7 years years out of one because while s******g in the bulb I have broke 2 of them and just moving around my book light I cracked one of them.

Just be careful and transport them carefully.

  3. I would make sure that the fixtures you're putting them in aren't the problem.. perhaps the new bulbs and old fixtures just don't jive..

I know my landlord had to replace a few when he switched everything to energy efficient..

  4. They save a lot of power and lower your bill but they are over rated on how long they will last.  Some brands last a lot longer then others.  I have had to change one bulb, after about one month.  If the are burning to soon try get different brand next time,
