which is best, sorry about them being diesel, nothing i can do.

I'm going to be the fence-sitter on this one. I have driven both for years, and I still couldn't choose between them.

BMW's have a better "feel" and drives better. Merc's are more elegant and classy...

Do a test drive and see which one gives you a bigger smile.

Both are fantastic cars in their own right.

Drive both, then make the decision.  Must be nice to be able to have a choice and diesel powered too.

The beemer handles better but has a firmer ride. The 3 series has been such a popular choice amongst Junior Management that you might want to go for the Merc. Take the model number badge off the boot and pretend you are middle management.
