Company downsized, now what?

Should I return to work for a company that downsized me?

  1. First, consider it a complement that they called you back. At least you know now that they didn't use the downsize to get rid of you for some reason. This a good for your ego and of course references.

    Second, if you go back, you accept the risk that it could/would happen again. You would be like most factory workers - on-off-on-off - its part of the job.

    If you liked the job, liked the pay, and want to go back, by all means go back. Just remember that you still have some risk of future layoff (maybe pay more attention at the watercooler and pal up with the gal in accounting - they know everything first).

    You alternative would be to go job shopping. I don't know how that would be in your area, but remember that these days, there is always a risk of layoff no matter where you go. And at a new place you wouldn't have any senioroty.
