Company`s symbols....?

Question

Whenever I get interested in checking out a company listed on the stock market, I seem to have difficulty finding their symbol......like the symbol for Sainsburys for instance is SBRY .

Does anyone know the easiest way or where to find out a company`s symbol please. Is there a list anywhere on the web?

Most stock research sites will have a symbol lookup feature where you can just type in the name of the company, and it will give you the symbol.  I agree, the tickers can sometimes be a bit arbitrary (who would ever guess that Southwest Airlines would be LUV???), but the lookup feature is helpful.

Go to www.ft.com and at the top of the webpage there is a search box called 'Quotes'.  Type the company name into the box, and it will bring up the comany name and the stock market 'ticker' symbol.

If you then click on the company name, you will be able to get a stock quote and chart the price action.
