I just recently got a used Compaq Armada M300 and it worked for about a month then it started having problems. It would get to the screen where it said Windows 2000 Professional and the starting up bar would be there and after the bar got filled, then a blue screen would pop up and the laptop would restart. After a while of it doing this, it got even worse, now it only gets to the black screen that says "Starting up" and the bar doesn't fill. Then under the bar it says "Disk I/0 error : Status = 00001000 Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt : \WINNT\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

You can attempt to repair this file by starting Windows 2000 Setup using the original setup floppy disk or CD-ROM. Select 'r' at the first screen to start repair." My laptop does not have a disk drive and I bought it used so the original Setup floppy disk did not come with it. What do I do now?

  1. Could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software. This  problem can be solved by uninstalling new softwares, updating device drivers and making minor configuration changes . From http://fixit.in/bluescreenofdeath.html . You can also run a free registry scan using utilities from http://re7.info

  2. Buy anew hard drive, Im going through this exact problem with a compaq laptop. When you restart get into your bios setup, using either the f8, f10 or f12 (diffrent on all computers) Any once in there you can proform a self check on your hard drive and it will attempt to repairbad sectors. If it cant repair (as in my case) or there no bad sectors. Use another computer and download a program called UTorrent ( http://www.utorrent.com/ )

    Then go to this site---->http://torrent-finder.com/

    Search for which ever windows version you would like (I chose XP pro) Download it and burn as A iso . Get back into the bio setup, and choose the boot sequence option andset first boot to be from the cd drive. Set windows up and whaaa la> Sidenote thiswill be an illegalcopy If you can get past that, this method works. Good Luck!!!
