Compaq C502US Laptop Won't Boot LEDs flash

Question

I have a Compaq Presario C502US laptop that will not boot. The minute I plug it into the a/c adapter the red charge led rapidly flashes (looks like some sort of blink pattern). When I hit the power switch the power light on the switch blinks on and off rapidly and then one of the volume led's flicker.I checked the CMOS battery and it's fine and the a/c adapter is putting out the right voltage.
