  1. France and Switzerland, while possessing many similarities, also vary in many ways.

France for one is quite a bit larger than Switzerland, being one of largest countries in Europe. It has only one official language, French, of course, though many people involved in customer service often speak English. Also, in France when you visit restaurants, the tip is included in the price, which is quite different, and often causes bad service because the servers don't have to work for their tip. one important factor however, the legal drinking age, is the same in both countries. 16 for soft liquor and 18 for hard liquor.

France and Switzerland also have different currencies. France, being a part of the European Union, has the Euro as its currency, while Switzerland has the Swiss franc.

Switzerland is quite a bit smaller than France, as it takes only about 2 and a half hours to go from one end of the country to the other. Switzerland has 4 official languages, including French, Italian, Swiss German, and the lesser known language of Romansch (pronounced row-mantch). Marijuana is also legal in Switzerland and smoking is allowed in public places, while in France the possesion of Marijuana is illegal, and a law against smoking in public places recently took effect this year.

Switzerland also has a law in effect obligating all its male citizens to join the army for at least one year at the age of 20.

The Capitals of these two countries are Paris and Bern respectively.

    hope that helps!

  2. Ive been to both. Language - SO different.

Culture? Eh, not so much. Different food specialtys and such, different weather, etc.

  3. The French like ducks and the Swiss do not.

  4. The Swiss are very tight with their money and speak 3 languages, nationally. The French have a lousy sense of humor and rarely smile or welcome foreigners. They are both a bit snobbish about their cuisine and for good reason- its' delicious. In France you can have the farmers daughter with a hearty breakfast afterword in Switzerland you will be pursued by an angry mob.
