  1. i agree with Johnny on the capacity and trend age.

i would like to add that the larger the capacity of the disc, the higher the resolution it can store.

  2. CDs have been around since the early 1980s and can hold up to 700 MB or 80 minutes of music.  DVDs have been around since 1997 and can hold up to 2 hours of video or 4.7 GB.

  3. A Compact Disc (or CD) is an optical disc used to store digital data, originally developed for storing digital audio. The CD, available on the market since late 1982, remains the standard playback medium for commercial audio recordings to the present day.

Standard CDs have a diameter of 120 mm and can hold up to 80 minutes of audio.

DVD is a popular optical disc storage media format. Its main uses are video and data storage. Most DVDs are of the same dimensions as compact discs (CDs) but store more than 6 times as much data. A Dual/Double layer capacity can hold upto 17.08 GB of information/video/music.

Both the media are now also used for storing data on their R/RW cousins.
