The animee style of cartoon used as a format for the Yugioh game cards is based on the gods and goddesses of the ancient Egypt,but there has been a great deal of " free licence" taken in the interpretation of their individual abilities, allegiances as well as their appearance.

The ancient Egyptian priests used a powerful form of magic called heka,from which all forms of magic as we know it have evolved.

The Bible tells that the ancient Egyptians were well versed in the arts of magic and the some of the contemporary stories  told for entertainment in the dynastic era of ancient Egypt relate many feats involving great control of the power of heka and also the knowledge of its use for good and for evil,as well as the consequences for doing so.

So while there is a great deal of "licence" taken by the artists

of the Japanese based Yugioh cards and there is a deal of familiarity in thier identities.

Even with out having superpowers the ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses,all 2.000 aspects of them make for a fascinating study.
