Compared to ear piercing, how much does navel piercing hurt?

I'm getting my upper navel pierced in a couple of days. I've read both that it hurts a lot and that it doesn't hurt at all. My sister said that it hurt, but not enough to make her cry or anything.

This tells me absolutely nothing. People's pain tolerance differs, obviously. So--how bad is it compared to getting your ears pierced? To, I don't know, nicking yourself when shaving, being hit upside the head with a frying pan... give me some comparison, please?

I've had my ears pierced about 14 times (they kept closing up and at one time I also had 3 holes in each ear). I've also had a few root canals and a tooth pulled. (Geez, I sound hideous...) However, I handled those pretty well without so much as a squeak. Usually my threshold for pain is pretty high, but getting a belly button piercing was really painful and I bled afterwards. >_<

However, that being said, I've talked to a few friends since then, and I've learned that it really depends on the person. One of my friends didn't even notice it going in, and she cries like a baby. The best advice that I can give you is to bring a friend along. Even if it doesn't hurt, at least you'll have someone to take pictures of the whole process!

Oh, and don't forget to research the place that you're going to. Make sure that they know what they're doing, that they use clean utensils and that they aren't a******s.

Okay, i HATE needles, with a burning passion.

But even with that i convinced my mom to let me get it done at 14.

It was in March of this year.

To me, it hurt about the samce as ears, which is odd, and you probably wont believe me, and more then cutting yourself shaving. I kind of felt like someone was putting pressure to my belly button, not really hurting it. It hurt after i got up, i almost passed out from the needles. But after that was over, it bled a little bit, and it hurt while i was walking through stores. They say the second day hurts most, not for me, it didn't hurt unless i touched it.

I would hit it with my binders in school, and that would hurt it too.

I had it done and was scared it was going to hurt really bad but then it didnt. Compared to my ears it did hurt a little more, BUT I had absolutley ZERO pain with my ears, so I guess I have a high pain tolerance. Not to mention I ended up getting my navel repierced two more times, so it obviously isnt that bad or I wouldn't have redone it. It's more in your head than anything, if you just relax and breathe and think about something else while they are doing it you wont even notice, it might be uncomfortable but not really painful.
