When Michelle Obama said that she felt proud of her country for the first time in her life, did we miss a good opportunity to frankly discuss an important issue? When I ask this question, I get answers like "we feel the same way white people do, some of us are proud, some of us aren't". Does an answer like this avoid the question? If someone points out that white people control the USA, a white person could respond by saying "we're the same as black people, some of us have power and some of us don't", but wouldn't that simply be avoiding an important point? If a higher proportion of African-Americans than white Americans aren't proud of their country, maybe they have good reasons. Maybe we should listen to them. It seems that this would be an important topic of discussion where we could all learn from each other. The reason this question is so long is because I've asked it before and then found that I had to get more specific because of non-committal answers. If I don't get specific answers this time, I'll have to ask again, probably with an even longer question. So, instead of avoiding the question, will you please simply answer: Do a higher proportion of African-Americans, in comparison to white Americans, feel no pride in their country?

  1. i am not as proud to be american as i am to be black. i would feel stupid being patriotic. this is america for crying out loud, i still don't feel like i am part of this country.

  2. Honestly, I feel we are one of the most free and modern nations around the world, and I feel blessed to live in this country. Then again looking at history and current events, America is an evil country, and we  the inhabitants of this will reap the evil seed The United States keeps planting around the world. From the Iran Contra affair to Suddam and many other events.

I have pride in who I am, so I would be proud to be whoever and wherever I was destined to exist. The truth is I love God, I am proud to be his creation. He destined, and appointed this time in history from me to live. I trust his judgement, and seek him in all things, and he will always direct my paths.

"Pride comes before a fall" When you have pride in someone, something, or any entities, and not God you are bound to fail. Everything in this world is only temporary and will pass away, God is Forever!

    Peace

  3. No..Black Americans (at least the ones who are decendents of American slaves) are very patriotic..This is our home and land of our ancestors. So there would be no other place to go if it got screwed up.

Michelle Obamas words were taken out of context, she said its the first time she REALLY proud of her country. That dosent mean she was never proud of her country. The media has just painted her that way.

If my son became president I would REALLY be proud of my country as compared to just being proud.

  4. Actually, I have pride in my nation.. There's so much, that we as African American did for this country. Of course we had really bad times in history but if wasn't for them..Michelle Obama wouldn't be talking on talk shows or even at the convention, or even Obama running for president.

not trying to be mean or anything...but just because another African American talks about issues in America doesn't mean they represent all of us..

  5. i would have to say yes. i feel absolutely no pride in this country. this country was built on hate thievery lies injustice violence and unfair labor. why should i be proud of a corrupt country. i can't wait to move.

  6. Yes, I'd say so. Look at what they've been through and what they are still going through.

  7. We are proud, but we are more likely to criticize our country.  Most of our pride is recent.
