Compari comes back to racing in the Night Mover Stakes at Hollywood Park
John Nicoletti, Donald J. Valpredo and Harris Farms owned 5-year-old gelding Compari will make his return to the races after a six month layoff in the $60,000 Night Mover Stakes on 18 November, 2011, at Hollywood Park.
Martin Jones trained California bred son of Redattore, out of mare Southern Charm by Dixieland Band, Compari this year has run twice. Kicking off with a Grade 3 San Simeon on 16 April, 2011, Compari failed to finish on the board in the six and a half furlong dash at Santa Anita Park.
He was fended off by Supreme Summit to finish fourth to winner Regally Ready who completed his trip in 1 minute and 12.33 seconds.
Stretched out in distance, Compari represented his connections in a mile long allowance race at Hollywood Park on 8 May, 2011. Teaming up with Garrett Gomez, Compari pressed hard while swinging off the bend, gave his all too early as he wilted to finish fourth behind the winner Red Sun.
Compari in 2010 had a dream run when he won three stakes races in a row, including a grade 2 race as well.
The dream run for trainer Martin Jones started in Compari’s first race of the 2010 season. The six and a half furlong long Sensational Star at Santa Anita, which Compari went on to win.
He converted his second start of the season into a win, while running high in the 1 mile long Crystal Water Handicap, also at Santa Anita under his usually ride then, Garrett Gomez. He completed the distance in 1 minute and 35 seconds flat.
The big one of his 2010 season was a win in the Grade 2 Arcadia Stakes over at a mile under Garrett Gomez. Compari picked up where he left from, as he rounded off his perfect Hollywood Park burst attaining 3 wins in as many starts.
Night Mover also includes the 7-year-old Ronald Ellis trained Mr Gruff, who is coming off a 16th place finish in the Grade 2 Al Quoz Sprint at about five furlongs at the Meydan on 26 March, 2011.
Mr Gruff will also be coming off a 9 month layoff. The Al Quoz Sprint was his only start in the year 2011.
