Question:

Comparing Down Comforters?

Hello, I stayed at a Marriott and loved their down blanket. It's from Pacific Coast. But now I'm looking around at other companies - downoutlet.com, the companystore.com. If I see a comforter with similar stats for fill power, fabric, fill, and size, but it's cheaper, could I assume that it would be the same? Or if everything is equal, companies really do differ in the quality blanket they produce. I'm inclined to go for the cheaper goose down comforter because it seems the same or better than the Pacific Coast one.

Thanks.

  1. I bought one from overstock.com and absoultly LOVE it. I don't remember a brand name or anything but i got it at a good price and there are many u can shop around with.

  2. I bought mine in an actual store... I pulled ALL of them out of the bags and squished them, then kind of cuddled them, and so on. I bought the second cheapest one they had because it was the one I liked best and I didn't look at the price when I was 'testing' them. So, in my opinion, more expensive does NOT equal better.

Mind you, my least favorite ended up being the cheapest one of all.. so you never really know. So, I would suggest, buy one from a store where you can actually 'test' it.

  3. You are wise to compare.  Most people who buy them, and are dissatisfied, have usually bought cheaply made ones.

The three factors that matter are the fill weight, baffles and the fabric thread count.

The more fill, the warmer the duvet.

The higher the thread count, the less chance of feathers escaping onto everything.

Baffles will hold the feathers in place.  They won't "migrate" to the outside edges.
