  1. U always need the denominators to be the same before comparing fractions (even if not all are fractions)

    Here there's only one denominator so that's the one u use (if there are two diff u use the LCM)

    So 4 = 4/1. if u make the denom. 12, u have to multiply the numerator by the same to keep the fraction from changing.

    So 4/1 = 48/12

    Now u can compare the numerators, 48 is obviously bigger.

    PS: this is how u do it when youre not sure which is bigger. in your problem u can actually see that 4 is larger than 1 but 7 over 12 is obviously less than 1.
