Compensation talks between Theo Epstein and Boston Red Sox postponed till Dec 8 – MLB News
The compensation talks involving the Boston Red Sox and Theo Epstein have now been postponed till December 8. The announcement was made by the Chicago Cubs newly hired president of baseball operations, the former general manager of the Boston Red Sox, Theo
Epstein.
Theo Epstein became a part of the Chicago Cubs on October 12, 2011 after he signed an $18.5 million contract with the club for five years. It was on October 21 that Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs made an announcement that Epstein had resigned to assume the
charge of president of baseball operations for the latter.
The deal that he has with the Cubs is so far going well apart from the issues concerning his contract with the Red Sox. A year of his contract with the Boston Red Sox was left when Theo Epstein resigned and became the part of the Cubs.
The matters that need to be sorted out seem to be pending as Theo Epstein has been working extensively on making a strong enough group of players and managerial staff for the Cubs. On Thursday, November 17 he stated that he and Ben Cherington, the Boston
Red Sox general manager, have spoken on the contract.
"[Red Sox GM Ben Cherington] and I talked, and we agreed that it makes sense to put it off until after the Rule 5 Draft," Epstein said Thursday. "Some things will be more clear -- rosters and what not.”
He commented that MLB will not involve in the matter unless a conclusion is reached between the teams. “There's nothing to report on except that we've agreed to re-engage after the Rule 5 Draft. It's very amicable. Lots of jokes about it. We'll see if we
can get something done after the Rule 5 Draft."
While the Boston Red Sox have their new manager to hire, the Chicago Cubs announced Dale Sveum as the new manager of the club following the dismissal of Mike Quade. The Cubs can now focus on the deal involving Epstein and Boston Red Sox which has yet to
be completely sorted out.
