my god son has a competition coming up and i want to buy him a nice dress for it because he is gonna be a girl in it. his mom put him in classes a while back and this is his first competition. i thought it was weird at first but then i looke online and realized she was not the first mother to dress her son like a girl. the dad is not in the picture. but anyways, i was trying to decide which one to get him. i have searched around but does anyone know any good websites?. poor kid is worried about dressing like a girl but we reashured him that he is gonna look very pretty. his mom really wanted a girl i guess because she grows his hair long, and has even dressed him up before on quite a few occasions. any suggestions?

  1. wow, well the sites refered to above are good, but it seems that you already got one.  it is a very pretty dress.  the rules might not let him wear it though!  but if he is competing as a girl and registered for the competition as a girl, or if it is a group competition, then this is not a problem.

i have seen other cases where mothers have dressed their sons like girls but this is by far the most interesting.

you really nedd to sit down and talk with his mother about this to make her ralize that she has a boy and not a girl.  Since the kid already agreed to it, let the competition pass and let his mother see what is going on.  this will help her realize that by dressing him in girl clothes, no matter how pretty he looks, he is still a boy in the end.

best of luck to your god son in his competition and dealing with the issues at hand.

  2. The dress can be found anywhere....but the therapy he'll need when he's an adult will be tricky to find.

  3. dont do it

  4. yes, please do consider the male outfits for next time, especially because it is not his choice to dress like a girl.  but this is actually more common than we think.  some moms do dress their boys like girls when they want a daughter.  although i have never seen one make her son perform as a girl.  i just hope no one else knows he is a boy, so make him as passable as you can for his sake of being embarrased in front of everyone.  but i wish him luck and hope he does well in the competition.

  5. Boys that skate get teased alot for just skating, i know the boys at my rink used to get hassled alot when they were younger and they still do. Putting him in a dress would just make things alot harder for him. Think about have you ever seen a famous male skater in a dress, no.

What about some nice black pants- velvet two way stretch always looks good, and a shirt that matches with his music or just a nice shirt.

The good thing for boys is that one nice pair of comp pants will last alot longer than a dress for a girl. Because the pants can be reworn with any music.

My only other suggestion would be pants with a rather long top worn  overpants, with like maybe a belt. Ive seen that a few times. A long flowy kind of shirt- but make it uneven.

sort of like this link: http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2007-0...

Also mb you could try a dress maker.

Little kids will do what their parents want them too, of course he will dress as a girl if he is begged too. But, man, that kid is going to need extensive therapy when he is older, he will be stuck between the two sexes, by being a girl or a boy whenever it suits his mother.

Anyway just do a search for skating dresses on google and you will find heaps of sites where you can buy them from.

Thats actually kind of cheating, entering him as a girl when he is a boy

  6. www.skatebuys.com great and simple dresses! also www.skateforless.com=D

  7. ebay you can dresses cheap and it's nearly hassle free

  8. It does sound a bit odd that his mother would do this.  But it is not unheard off.  i learned about this in school phsycology class.  She might not so much as want him to be a girl just for the need of a daughter.  Maybe she was a figure skater herself and is trying to relive those years, or maybe she did not make it and is trying too live her dreams through her son.  Either way, it sounds like a phsycological problem to me.  Just do not let it get as far as the cases where the mothers actually put their sons on hormones so they will develop like girls, mothers have done this before.

  9. A few good places for skate apparel are

    www.skatebuys.com

    www.skatedresswarehouse.com

    www.discountskatewear.com

    www.gkeliteskatewear.com

For his next competition I'd suggest sticking with the male look, I feel bad for him I completely understand why he wouldn't want to dress up like a girl.

Also, if the competition is being sanctioned by the USFSA there are rules as far as the dress standards for male and female, I am not positive of the rules for males, but I'd check into the rules to make sure that they will allow him to skate as a girl (and most other skating associations have similar rules).

  10. There are plenty of sites where you can go.  Just type "skate dresses" into a search engine and you will find a lot.  the dress in your link is very nice.  I must admit that when my son was enrolled in figure skating classes for the first time, the coach thought he was a girl too and he also wore a dress for a performance, but it was a group show, so all the girls wore the same dress.  this was my fault because i did keep his hair long and girly so he was confused for a girl all the time.  it also didnt help that he showed up to practice in girl skate clothes that i had as hand me downs from his cousin.

  11. Use your creativity ideas, Design yourself.

  12. please do not put him in a dress. men figure skaters turn out g*y more times than not as it is. dont try to lead him in that direction. dresses can be found anywhere but it is not recommended. im getting a degree in psychology/legal/premed and from what ive learned, this is not a wise decision for that boys mental state. do the right thing...the mother may need to see a parent counselor and just a therapist for herself. maybe shes putting her dreams on her son? regardless, dont do it

  13. He should be wearing boy clothing and male (black) skates. I am a male figure skater, and a figure skating coach. My son also figure skates. Boys are not allowed to compete against girls in most competitions, and certainly you will not see any other boys on the ice in a dress. The best choice is generally a pair of skating pants and a shirt.

My suggestion is if your godson is going to skate, he should be looking and competing like a boy.

  14. Never mind what HIS mother wante - HE is a BOY, and needs to be treated as one.

The child is worried about dressing like a girl for a reason.  HE has probably been teased already and this will only add to it.

HIS mother needs help.  A lot of help.  As your GodSON, you need to ensure she gets it.

    Quickly.  Please.

  15. Some people should NOT procreate....
