Yo,swimmers. I need your advise. What is the difference between long course and short course? I've been swimming for 8 years now and I've been only doing short course round year. My old team is offering long course this season. Should I do it? Is it any easier? The same? I'd like to know your opinions. Grasias!

  1. short course is well short lenghts, like 25 metres

and long course is like 50

i dont remeber, i havent swam in a while, i forgot most things

  2. Short Course is in a 25m pool, Long Course is in a 50m pool. It's good to compete in both throughout the year to get times for both. Both have their benifits... in a short coures pool you can practice your turns and the times are faster. A long course pool is better if you do middle/long distance events (less turns). I say try out the long course pool. It will help your times and its good to change your training environment.

  3. long course is the pool with a tumble turn at every 50m mark but short course you tumble turn at every 25m mark

i hope this helps love kate

  4. Short course (SC) refers to swimming in a 25 meter pool.

Long course (LC) refers to swimming in a 50 meter pool.

Your times should be faster swimming SC because of the flip turns.

  5. OK

so short course is 25 yard lengths.  they're easy, short, and filled with flip turns.  so if you get a nice push off the wall, then they're definitely for you.

long course is 50 meters....so basically double plus about 18 inches.  any competitive swimmer should swim year around... meaning regardless of which season.  so yah, go for it!!!

not too many teams swim only short course.  most of them switch to long course during long course season.  and since you've been swimming for such a long time, i think that you should probably look for a bigger team to improve.

  6. There are two types of pools.  One type is either 25 yards, and another is 50 meters.  That means that the 50 Meter pool is more than twice as long as your typical short course pool.  That will give you less turns, and also, you have to swim more because meters are longer than yards.  I recommend you try it out, and if you don't like it, you can swtich back.  De nada!

  7. Short course 25 yards in lenght of a pool, long course is 50 yards, or meters Im not exactly sure, depends on the league.

  8. Short course is in a 25 yard or 25 meter pool.

Long course is a 50 yard or 50 meter pool.

Not as many flip turns, so the times are a bit slower.

  9. long course is 50 meters and short course is 25 yards (in the states) or meters (most other places).

50 meters is the Olympic size pool so there is a nostalgia with it being recognized as more official.

However depending on your strengths (turns and underwater kick) short course can give you a big advantage / disadvantage against your competitors.

short course tends to be 'easier' and faster because of the extra boost you get from the walls.
