My daughter was injured at the school's playground last Friday (Dec. 1, 2006), leaving her a 1.5" long cut/scratch on HER FACE. However, NOT a single incident report was written and NOT a single teacher noticed until I went to pick her up and saw it. I reported it to the director of the school, and asked the staff about what happened but none of them knew anything about it.

The owner of the Goddard School (at Trickum, Marietta , GA ) was very rude and unprofessional. He not only refused to resolve the issue but also shut us down from any further participation at the school when I brought my daughter there for her Ballet/Tap dance class on Dec. 7 (Thursday). He handed me an envelope and just wanted to expel us away. When I asked him for the reason of such action, he lied and said that it was written in the letter. I opened the envelope immediately in front of him and read the letter, but actually there was NOT any reason written.

  1. I'd get used to it, most schools are like that. A one inch scratch really isn't that big of an injury in the life of a child, of course, we don't know where it is located or how obvious, but it sounds like she didnt' complain during recess.

At least your daughter is okay, at least she didn't need stitches. Seriously, we encountered stuff like that over and over in public schools, it won't go away. My son was cornered in a bathroom and beaten badly enough for the ER, in the 2nd grade, by other 2nd graders. No one called me, and the principal knew about it. Just another reason to homeschool.

  2. Wow that is HORRIBLE.  We were taught that even a little scrape that needs a bandaid must have an injury report along with it and explained to the parent when they arrived.  That is just unnaceptable and that owner especially needs to be punished.  It is things I hear like this that make me so angry about some of the people who choose to take care of children when they really shouldn't be.  How did they not notice something like that...

  3. To heck with the school, I hope your daughter is all right.

  4. YOU SHOULD TAKE YOUR STORY TO THE MEDIA IN ATLANTA.

RANDY TRAVIS @CAHNNEL 5 FOX5 NEWS WILL GET THE WORD OUT FOR YOU.

    GLAD YOUR CHILD IS OKAY.

  5. I hope your daughter is ok. This is exactly why I homeschool.

  6. I am in GA and I have to say the dept of education is even sorrier than the schools are. The state dept of education knew all the things my school did wrong over an 8 yr period and did NOTHING. I filed 5 formal state complaints and they did NOTHING. They are allowing schools to be this way.

I took my child out to homeschool. If you want something to be done, the best thing is go to a school board meeting and bring this to their attention. And also write a letter explaining everything to the head of the board of directors.

They have more 'pull' than the superintendent because they are the ones who approve funding for the schools. It all comes down to money.
