Question:

Complaint about my pool?

The town building inspector called me one morning to say that "there has been a complaint about your pool". My in ground pool was installed one year ago with a posted building permit. A few weeks ago we received heavy rains after a month of rain. With everything saturated there was no place for the rain to go. Many yards flooded during this heavy rain storm (including my own). I think this prompted the complaint. The assumption is my pool got in the way of the drainage. The final inspection was never done and the inspector is coming out to do it as a result of this complaint. What can happen? What are my rights?

  1. The final pool inspection is more directed toward safety issues and not ground water drainage. It is highly unlikely that your pool has anything to do with the flooding and you should have no problem with the inspection assuming your pool is up to code safety wise. I would just sit tight for now.

  2. You might want to try posting this over in the legal section as people there might have a better idea of what your rights and responsibilities are.
