Question:

Complaint against Toyota

I have seen many complaints on the 2002 toyota rav 4 transmission. Yet, I do not see Toyota doing anything about it. Who do we go to about this? No one seems to be doing anything about it. you make a claim with Toyota, but that doesn't solve the actual problem with anyone. This is an outrage. These vehicles have problems and Toyota just puts a little band-aid on the situation. These need to be recalled. Not only myself but many others are out alot of money due to these automobiles. When you buy a Toyota, you are paying extra because these are suppose to be good vehicles. Dependable. Has not been dependable and Toyota is not standing behind their product. Do we just have to take them to court? Is this the only way to receive resolve? Who or what will really listen to these complaints? Please help

  1. Better Business Bureau [ we are online ]

    state consumer affairs dept.

    state attorney general

  2. The transmission is under warranty for 5 years 60,000 miles. After that, legally you are on your own.  You can complain to Toyota and plead your case but after the warranty period is up, It is a judgment call on their part. If they tell you no, you are essentially screwed.

A recall or campaign is instated when there is a safety issue, or federal emissions issue. The government can mandate it or the manufacturer can initiate it. Unfortunately for you, neither has happened in this case.

  3. That is on a car that is 6 years old.  If its out of warranty why should Toyota fix it?   Not sure how long they warranty transmission's, but to expect a company to fix issues outside of the warranty period is a bit of a stretch.

    Parts degrade over time.
