Two angles are complementary if the sum of the measures of the angles is 90 degrees. If one angle is ten more than 3 times its complement, find the measures of the two angles.

  1. x + y = 90

    x = 3y + 10

    solve the system


  2. There is an even easier method

    x is one angle

    x + (3x+10) = 90

    4x +10 = 90

    4x = 80

    x = 20
