Completely different pickups in my guitar... will it work?

Ok, so I bought an Ibanez S, and it had stock EMG pickups in it... then I bought a pair of Seymour Duncan duel humbuckers.

Before i go through the hassle of changing the pickups, i was wondering if it would be possible to combine the sounds, and have one EMG on top, and one Humbucker on the bottom.

*my guitar has a three channel switch,(one channel for the top pickup, one for the bottom, and one for both.)

i don't know a whole lot about technical guitar stuff like this, but i just want to make sure that it wont sound bad if i have both pickups on at the same time.

  1. Yea it should work, but you will probably get a weird sound.

  2. Your fine unless your replacing a single coil pickup with a humbucker(double coil) Then you have to switch around the hot wire with the negative. The hot is the white wire. You can combine the sounds. I have a Demarzio HS3 in the neck position in my Fender Stratocaster and a Demarzio super distortion in my bridge position. Follow the installation instructionss on the new pickup.
