I have a standard definition TV. It has component video ports. Will this carry an HD signal? Or even upconvert?

  1. previous answer is wrong... if it's a standard definition TV, it will not down-convert it, because if it has any type of up or down converting circuitry,  it would be capable of HD. So if you try to view an HD signal (which is minimum 31.5KHz horizontal scanning freq), and the tv is only capable of standard (15.75KHz), all you would see is horizontal tearing.

  2. It will carry High definition, but it will downcovert it to standard definition.

  3. agreed with poster (juliepoo) above me, the component connections are for DVD players that have component output.  It will only transmit 480p lines of resolution.  It will not upconvert and will not carry any HD signal at all.

  4. No. It will not carry an HD signal because it is a standard TV.
