Question:

Component to Y/C?

I have Tivo and DVD that have component outputs, but a TV that has only Y/C inputs.

Will a receiver "convert" component input to Y/C output?

What's the least expensive reciever that does this and also maybe has HDMI for when I get an HD tv?

  1. Only HD Tivo has component.  Most Tivos have composite (yellow) and s-video output connectors.

Instead of converting, why don't you use the highest common connector between your TV and video sources?  Converting will only cause you to spend more money.  It will not give you better quality.

    HDMI - best

    Component - good

    S-video - better

    Composite - worst

You don't need HDMI on your receiver to support an HDTV.  You can go ahead and spend $300 on a receiver with HDMI, but you can just buy a $100 receiver with component and call it good.

  2. I am sure your Tivo has both S-Video (Y/C) and composite out. Since your TV is SD, just use the existing S-Video out of your Tivo. No need for any converter!  Tivo already converts the component to S-Video or composite.
