Question:

Composite tooth filling causing pain?

I had a filling done today on the back two of my bottom teeth on my left side. It doesn't hurt when I bite, but only when I chew food. I also have a little pain in my left cheek and a sore neck. It's hard to open my mouth as well and I feel as though there is a lot of pressure on my jaw on that side. Is this normal?

  1. Yes. I always have it for few days to a week after dental work.

  2. THERESA,

THIS IS NOT UNUSUALWITH SOME COMPOSITES.

    WHY?

MANY TIMES IT'S BASED ON THE SIZE OF THE FILLING THAT CAUSES THE SENSIRIVITY.

THIS USUALLY THIS CALMS AFTER A WEEK OR TWO.

  3. If the dentist did a lot of drilling, especially near a nerve, this is normal.  Take whatever was recommend for pain.  You will probably get more relief from ibuprofen (Motrin, etc) than from acetaminophen (Tylenol).  Ibuprofen has anti-inflammatory properties.
