I'm wondering if there's any advantage to composting if you have a garbage disposal?

  1. there is always a advantage to composting you make/get a rich soil blend that you can add to your garden to enrich the natural soil with out the use of chemical fertilizers

  2. Food scraps will not decompose in the landfill, because it is in a non decomposable plastic bag. So I highly recommend not to toss it in the trash or put it down the garbage disposal but compost it.

  3. Well, if you can use the compost, then its better, since you're getting it for free.  If you can't use the compost, then its a disadvantage, because then you end up with this mountain of compost.

  4. Are you asking- is it better for the environment to composte or use the garbage disposal?  Composting is better.  Some communities outlaw garbage disposals, as it increases the amount of waste (especially oils) in the water.

I installed one- but try to use it as infrequently as possible.
