Question:

Compressing a Howrse coat to 300KB in GIMP?

I have GIMP 2.4.2, and I used it to create a nice coat to be used on Howrse.com. The problem is, Howrse will only accept coats in .png format, and no more than 300KB in size. Well, I could only manage to get the coat down to 483KB in size.

It has to stay in the .png format, and has to be less than 300KB.

Can anyone help me with compressing it further?

In that dialog that comes up, I unchecked all the boxes and set the compression level as high as it would go, to 9.

  1. The most effective way is to scale down the image go to menu, image, scale image, click the box left to the width and height and change it to percent, reduce it to 80 percent, then save the pic again, you should be fine, otherwise, ctrl+z to undo the scale, try a lower percentage.
