Question:

Compromise Rules Should we dump it now?

Is it high time this comp. was given the boot?

Given the difference in rules and regs and the fact that AFL players are used to full contact and the Gaelic players use the no contact rule (loosely)

Also AFL players are fulltime pro's and the Irish mostly play the game out of a love of it and do not get paid to play?

  1. YEAH I'm with you on this one, lets get rid of it once and for all,its just a nothing game played against the worlds biggest sooks,it does nothing for AFL and probably nothing for the Gaelic association either,i would much rather see state of origin make a come back than watch international rules rubbish.

  2. It's not about the game it's about selecting an all australian team. THink about it - being selected in that team is like a medal and is often quoted " so and so - three times all australian". No one actually cares about the series result but it provides some fun debate about who should and shouldn't get selected.

  3. It adds a bit of variety I guess..

Although with AFL morons turning the game into a non-contact sport these days, I can see now where they get their ideas from!!

  4. I hate the international series, whats the point of it anyway?

  5. Well the "composite" rules have certainly been compromised by the niggly Irish attitude. They they dont want to play unless they play well.... Gaelic football.

I actually am a big fan of the competition and watch it live. Its good to see players from all of the different teams playing together. The Irish whinge about the tackling .. well no they whinge about everything (which is dissapointing as I thought nationally they were more resiliant and strong spirited than to engange in pommy style whinging).

I love my Aussie rules but I also enjoy seeing our professional players versatility in being able to adapt to kicking the difficult round ball and also the much faster tempo of composite games. It may be wrong of me but I just cant help but cheer when one of our guys slams one of them with a huge shirtfront or brings a smartA down with a tackle. There is actually a lot going for the game.. well a few years ago anyway when it was more of a genuine hybrid. I do think its good for the players on both sides to get the recognition of representing their country which is something that would not otherwise be available to either the AFL or Gaelic players but other codes take for granted.

I vote for keeping it but take the rules back a year or two to having a more even balance between the codes.

  6. Well your arguments suggest the Irish couldn't possibly win, but they do regularly.

I think it's interesting but only interesting.  I can't imagine being passionate about who wins or loses.  Probably its biggest value is as a mini-draft camp for the Irish.  It also makes 'All Australian' a little less meaningless.

On the down side.  It's another opportunity for players to get injured.

    Dump it?  No strong opinion.

  7. I love the international rules, I of course love my Aussie rules but it's a great game to watch.
