Question:

Compulsory vs. Elective Voting?

Hi all, not wanting to start any arguments here. I come from Australia where voting is compulsory. Just wondered what people's opinions are for the relative merits of both systems (where voting is compulsory or not). I personally can see pro's and con's for both sides, and I'm undecided.

  1. I would not like voting compulsory. Most people who don`t follow politics don`t vote.Do you want voters who will make there choice by the flip of a coin.People who follow politics vote.

  2. Well I'm from the US where most people are too lazy to vote anyways, but the idea the whole point of democracy is people have the right to choose, including to vote, seems kind of ironic to force someone to vote in a free society. Besides, look at what the common person knows on politics, if someone doesn't want to vote, then for the love of god don't make them
