If I put my computer into "sleep" mode, does it waste as much energy as it does when it is on? Does it waste as much as when it is off? Can someone explain please?

  1. First off, when you are using the computer the power it is using is not "wasted". Secondly when the computer is in sleep mode it does use more power than if it were turned off. But the computer doesn't use much power when it's in sleep mode, Less than 6 watts for most computers.

  2. Putting a computer in sleep mode saves more energy than leaving it on, but uses more energy than turning it off. ~MaDiSoN

  3. Turning your computer off will use less energy that putting it to sleep, and yet putting it to sleep will use less energy that when it is on, however if my computer is inactive it will go to sleep by itself.
