  1. Computer hardware engineering encompasses microprocessor based design, as well as work with ASICs. And if you know digital electronics, as well as writing low-level firmware, then there is lots of demand. Can you write diagnostics? What about device drivers? I assume you know how to use equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, and tools to create multi-layered circuit diagrams or generate Gerber files? Have you worked with 8-bit and/or 16-bit micro-controllers?

Lot's of work was outsourced to India by greedy corporations in the first half of the 2000s. As a result the cost of living has risen a lot in places like Bangalore. In year 2000, five Indian engineers could be hired for the cost of 1 US engineer. Today that figure is 2 to 1. Because of this outsourcing and the dot-com bust, enrollment in engineering, the physical sciences, and computer science has gone down in American colleges. Engineering salaries are rising in India. In China, language and efficiency are problems. And in North America, fewer engineers are graduating than there are jobs or anticipated jobs in the future. So you are in a good position to be able to land a job in computer hardware design, if you have an engineering degree. The demand exceeds the supply in today's world. But you need to be a bit flexible as to what kind of work you'll accept. Salaries are good and the work is interesting.

    Good Luck
