If I delete a file a year ago isn't that harder to find then one I delete a day ago?

Also doesn't installing or downloading new data over write my old deleted files?

  1. If I delete a file a year ago isn't that harder to find then one I delete a day ago?

--no, both should be in the recycling bin. unless youve emptied that out

Doesn't installing or downloading new data over write my old deleted files?

    --nope

  2. Assuming you have emptied your Recycle bin... (seriously jtech? Who goes for a year without emptying?)

Then yes. older files are less likely to be recovered, and writing new information to the hard drive overwrites the disk areas of files that have been deleted and emptied.  Once overwritten, files are generally impossible to recover.
