My new webcam has this feature I would like to use...

It monitors when motion is detected and it sends you an email...

Its asking to provide the following 3 things (+ send to email address):

"Outgoing mail (SMTP) server. (Please contact email server provider to get detail information)"

"Account name"

"Password"

Im assuming its asking for my "user name" and "Password" for the account from where the email will be sent? Is this correct or is it close to the bumbest thing youve ever heard!? LOL! ;-)

Also! What the heck is the SMTP and where do I get it??

If you havent noticed, I know nothing about computers! ;-)

Thanks!

  1. It's possible its asking for your username and password of you email account. The Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), server will be XXXX.x*x.XXXX.  Like for yahoo mail it would be, smtp.mail.yahoo.com. You can contact your provider for that info.

  2. Since it wants an email address to send the email to, I'm going to suggest the rest of what it wants is the following:

The smtp server name for your internet service provider.  This is the server that handles your outgoing email through you isp.  Even if this is NOT the email address you normally use, this is what you need here.  It also wants the account name and password for the account provided to you by your isp.  Again, even if this is NOT the email address you normally use, this is what you need here.  Check with your provider if you don't know this info.

  3. http://www.cordhosting.com/smtp_settings...

    depending on your ISP

i had earthlink at one time and I would put

    examples

    1 mail.earthlink.net

    2 my email addy

    3 password

  4. SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.  It's how computers send email to each other on the internet.  The SMTP server is ran by your ISP.   Usually you can find instructions on how to setup common email programs on your ISP's website.

    typically it's mail.hostname.com and smtp.hostname.com

Your account name and password should be the same for sending and receiving.

    Good luck!

  5. You need to specify what your email provider is first.

SMTP is an outgoing email protocol that stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. The SMTP server is where it needs to send the email

each company is different, here are a few off the top of my head

    AOL - smtp.aol.com

    Yahoo - smtp.mail.yahoo.com

    Netzero - authsmtp.netzero.com

    Windows Live Hotmail - smtp.live.com

If you specify an email provider I can better help.

  6. Most free email accounts will not give you direct access to the SMTP server (except accounts like gmail etc). If you are sure you have SMTP access you may use this tool to find the mail server.

    http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/mx-reco...

For gmail, it is a bit complicated, but the information is here http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answe...

  7. SMTP would be:   smtp.domain.com or ca (Depeneding on the domain you use)...

Account name is your email address....

Password is your password that you use for your email....

Hope this helps...  if you need more help, you can contact me...  And I will do my best to help out...
