How do you transfer/copy my document files from an old computer to a labtop? I have saved many of my valuable my document files which rounds up to about maybe a 1000 documents. Anyways, when I do transfer/copy my documents how can I prevent my computer from running really slow? Thanks for your assistance.

  1. get a flash drive or just save the files to a website and get the files back from your laptop

  2. hmmm.

Your best bed is to connect them with an Ethernet cable and create a computer to computer network and let it transfer overnight while you sleep.

Or, you could burn all the files onto a DVD, which holds up to 4gigs of information, and copy them to the laptop.

  3. Whenever you move a large amount of files you will end up with a fragmented drive.  Defrag it.  Not sure how you were doing it in the first place but if it was over a wireless connection then it will be slower.  All the suggestions about USB drives are good because you end up with a backup of your files just in case your drive is going bad.

  4. Ehm I don't really get you, But try copy and paste maybe?? Also it could be slow because of your pc's ram.

  5. An external hard drive or USB flash drive would be great for this case - put all the files from the old computer onto it and when you need to use it on the new computer, just plug it into the computer via USB or firewire. This would also prevent the new computer from slowing down

  6. Hello From the Tech:

The best advice is to go to any electronics shop, check flyers you will get great deals on a back to school time.  Buy couple of USB memory sticks and save them on there that way you have them available when needed and backed up if your computer crashes ever....Kills 2 birds with one stone.

Have a gr8 day, Hope this helps.

Best thing is you get mass storage cheap now days
