Question:

Computer IP address questions?

So, me and my fiance are trying to connect to a game. I'm on my laptop and he's on the main computer but we are like 3 feet away from eachother.

Why do we have the exact same IP address? Both internal and external are the same.

I was under the assumtion that all computers had their own IP adress?

  1. no the ip adress is for the computers that are using the same internet connection

  2. External addresses will be the same if you are using a router.

    Individual addresses shouldn't be.

    Do this -

    Start / run/ cmd / ipconfig

This will tell each of you what your IP addresses are.

If things are working otherwise, I'll bet you $10 they are really different!

  3. It is impossible. You wouldn't have same IP address at the same time that you can connect to internet or link to each other. You would receive a message about IP address conflict.I guess you are using a private IP which means that your router provide it.

I guess what you seem to see is the routers IP address(the IP address provided by your ISP). Of course, you should have the same IP in the first place, but each IP computer has each unique IP broadcasted by your router.

To know each computer's computer, go to Start>Run>type cmd. Then type ipconfig

    good luck!
