My Computer's memory is displaying 2 and 1/2 times the amount I am actually using. I have personally checked the files, deleted unnecessary programs, and every few minutes it adds on another .1 GB used. I am running a dell inspiron 1526 with windows vista

  1. Hi Discoverer,

You have to re- discover yourself.

The fact is that, to improve the performance of the system one can increase the Virtual memory in Windows. This can be 3 times to that of the RAM.

This memory is a part of C: allocated as RAM and which will speed up ur cut / copy / paste sort of things to perform fast, as a result the performance also varies to a better extent.

    Path to find the setting:

MY COMPUTER --> PROPERTIES ---->ADVANCED---->performance (SETTINGS) ----> ADVANCED----> CHANGE. There you can see , what i was saying all about.

  2. I've either misread the question or you've got the world's first self-powered memory manufacturer!

Seriously, I have never heard of this phenomenon (or virus?), but Windows creates temporary files all the time, accumulating data for restore points etc. and your browser has a cache. You should clear TEMP directories and empty caches periodically.

Also run a disk defragment program to consolidate free disk space.
