I need to buy a wireless networking card for my computer which is on the floor below the main computer. I don't need a router my brother up stairs already has one. I need one thats compatible with Windows Vista, and has a good, fast, and durable connection between the prices of 40$-100$ CAD.

Thanks!

  1. The only thing you really need to know is what protocol his router is using. If he has an 802.11g then you will need an 802.11g card. Most routers are .11b or .11g. There are some from the manufactures that use different technology that speeds up the transmission of data. Also see if he has a 802.11N if he does have a N router You will have to buy the card the manufacture says will work with that router as the N protocol is still in the draft phase of its life. There are 3 or 4 different draft protocols and they are not compatiable with each other. Say you have a 802.11n Linksys router then a 802.11n D-link card will not work with it. You don't always have to buy the same card as router but it makes life a bit easier for you the user.

    Hope this helps.

  2. I don't know if you're looking for laptop one or dektop but i guess u can go to Amazon nd look.  here's a site for selctions

    http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url...

YOu can try ebay too ^.^

  3. Most wireless network cards will work with most wireless access points. However, there are usually speed advantages with getting a wireless card that is the same as the router. Therefore, try and get the same brand as the router.

As for type, just get what you can afford. If you are only accessing the Internet with it, then dont bother purchasing the expensive high speed ones as your internet browsing will be no different. Just stick with a regular 54mbps wireless card and all should be gravy :-)

  4. You're going to need to buy a wireless network card that's compatible with your brothers router, get one that is manufactured by the same company. Since I don't know what brand of router your brother has, I can't tell which network card to buy.

If your brother has a Linksys router, you'll need to buy a Linksys wireless network card.
