My inlaws computer is acting up when they turn it on it shows one screen and it says

We apologize for the inconvenience but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this. If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly or was automatically shut down to protect your files and folders, Choose Last known good configuration to revert to the most recent setting that worked.

(These are the choices that they give you)

Safe mode

Safe mode with networking

Safe mode with command prompt

Last known good configuration (Your most recent settings that worked)

Start windows normally

This page stays on for 28 seconds and then tries to start windows, Then it goes back to the same page for another 28 seconds and it keeps repeating itself the choices that it gives you don't work, It just ends up back at the same page! If you know or have an idea what is going on or what the problem is please help!

  1. Last known good configuration (Your most recent settings that worked)

    try that one

seems like something you installed might have corrupted the registry or something, not exactly sure as to why it happens but this helps for me when this happens.

if that doesn't work try booting it up in safe mode

then when it asks do a system restore to a date like two weeks before they started having this problem

  2. Hi,

Allow machine to bootup to choices screen,

choose last Known configuration that worked, accept

This will take P.C to an earlier time before the current fault caused problems.

You can also use system restore , windows configures automatic time stamps of know good configurations.

tryit you have nothing to,lose and everything to gain

  3. try to click safe mode and if that does not work than shut down your computer improperly by just pushing the power button while it is on and than let it restart than it should run scandisk on its own and let it finish than it should start all right.  Good luck.

  4. When this happened to my computer I had to replace the motherboard. The cost was around 70.00.
