Computer Question Please?

Hi,

Bacially i have 1 desktop pc and 2 laptops. The desktop has Windows vista basic and one laptop has windowws xp and one has windows 2000. Is there any way i can update the laptop with windows 2000 up yo windows xp or vista. My desktop and laptop did not come with any cds. Thanks

apart form buying 2 new copies of vista/xp for each laptop, you cant just update to a new operating system unless you buy a update insted of a whole new Operating system.

most of your parts might not work so go onto the microsoft website and search for 'vista update advisor' which will check your system and see if it will work with vista. also you would need all the drivers for your motherboard and anythink else on the laptop.

You will more than likely need to upgrade you pcs also if you want to run Vista.  If you go to Vista I recommend at least 1 gig of memory, which I think it will still run slow, but the box should have the spec requirements on it.  It may be cheaper to just upgrade to windows xp on the one and not worry to much about upgrading to Vista, but hurry because eventually you will not be able to get XP and will have to get Vista.

If you contact the manufacturer of the pc's that did not come with cd's they should be able to sell you system restore discs.  Should.

you will need to buy a new copy of XP/Vista to install on your laptop. Thats the only way

any computer needs a specific o/s licence, however, you could buy a OEM which would suffice for the operating sytem.  Before you do that consider how much memory you have in the machine, best advice is to log onto the web and go the Micorosft.  Run the hardware capability test to see if you hardward supports the latest o/s.

Probably finds it does not, but ask the question what will you get by upgrading to the latest o/s?

you would have to buy the software again. im not sure wether you would have to buy it 2 times or not though
