  2. This question is very broad but put in simple terms Linux is BSD which means that alot of the programs needed for Linux are free to download on the internet. Windows I feel is just about as user friendly if not a little more. But Linux can also encounter problems which make it difficult to use if not very computer literate. Heres a comparison

  3. If you are trying to buy a computer, a computer preloaded with Windows Vista is easier to find (even though I hear very bad things about it), and what you do is just install Linux over top of it and use Linux as the main one. However, Windows XP preloaded computers and Linux preloaded computers are about as common as each other (both hard to find).

I use XP and I hate it. However, I only have a 5 GB hard drive (really really old computer) so I can't really install Linux onto it without uninstalling XP first, and I don't want to have to run a computer without an OS.

From what I hear about Linux, there are a lot of features that XP doesn't have. The problem is, that most of the commercial software that is available isn't available for Linux. The benefit from that is, most of the software for Linux is compatible with the Windows software, but the big thing is they're FREE. I would choose Linux over XP, but I don't personally have the opportunity to tell you how great Linux is (but I can refer you to a lot of people who think that Linux is better)
