Okay so, I'm trying to fix my Grandmothers computer and this 'virus' thing keeps popping up.

It looks like a Shield. It turns from a Cross in a Shield to a Question Mark in a Shield.

Whenever I click on it whether it be a Right/Left Click a Website Pops up for something called 'AntiSpyCheck'

How do I make the Toolbar go away?

  1. Buy this:

Install it. Run it. You're good :)

People may suggest "free" software - thats no good. Free scans only remove current infections - not much cop if you get infected again in 10 mins! Chances are that Windows has lots of infections - not just that one obvious one. That makes it pointless getting "specialised" something like a "Smit" removal tool. Software like "Spybot" is also next to useless.

You need a full security suite that offer real-times protection, support and that gets regular updates... unless you want it to happen again, of course. Just check the updates to see all the other nasties that Windows could get infected by:

  3. "AntiSpyCheck is the latest rogue anti-spyware advertised and installed through the Zlob Trojan. The Zlob Trojan is a malware that masquerades as a video or audio codec required to be installed in order to watch a movie on the Internet." See more about this rogue program down below in the link.

Scroll down to "Automated Removal Instructions for AntiSpyCheck using Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware:" It's free to use.

You'll be wasting your time using AV and Internet Security programs, such as Kaspersky, AVG, Avira, Avast, ClamWin, Norton, McAfee, aand many more cannot remove this kind of infection. And also many antispyware programs too cannot get rid of it, such as Spybot, Lavasoft, and many more. You can try, but you'll be going through them with no avail. For further information on zlob trojan, have a look at the link from Wikipedia.

Install update ad THEN imunize before scanning. Then do a scan maybe twice if it picks aything up.

If not in this case i might not boot to safe mode and scan

*rouge remover doesnt remove the core system file and will result in searching for numerouse files etc

  5. Her computer has a Smitfraud infection.

Antispychek is on the list of c**p that RogueRemover (Free version) can remove:

    http://www.malwarebytes.org/roguenet.php

A specialised removal tool will be needed to remove the malware (Smitfraud or Vundo) that is causing your problem. Almost all "general purpose","all-in one" spyware and virus removal programs such as AVG, Norton, McAfee or Spybot S & D cannot compleatly remove  Smitfraud or Vundo.

A good removal tool that specialises in removing these 2 types of infections is RogueRemover Free

To prevent re-infection....inform her of the following:

This type of infection (Smitfraud) is often spread by tricking the user into downloading and installing something, often a "codec" or a "media player" at some site in order to make the site work. Usually a video site. Never allow a website to force a download on you to make something unless you 1000% know and trust the site. A great many of these downloads are trojans or other malware. Always know exactly what you are downloading! If you are not sure, DON'T!

Or it can be caused by a website exploiting vulnerabilities in Windows. Keeping Windows 100% patched and updated with all Windows updates will stop most of this infection avenue. To check, in IE click Tools > Windows Updates.

    Good luck.
