Do you see that speed supported!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! what happens if it goes over that ?? like say i get a PC2-6400 which is DDR2 800 would the ram still work?

  1. If you select a faster speed memory chip, it will work fine.

However, it will not go faster than the computer specs.

Usually, faster chips cost more so you would simply be wasting money by getting a faster chip than your computer can handle.

  2. i think it pc2-6400 would work but it's just a good idea to stick with the manufacturer's recommedations. plus pc2-5300 is cheaper to buy.

  3. It will work, but only at PC-5300 speeds.

  4. Go tothe source for memory. It will show you what you have.  and what is compatible. anything else would not be safe.

  5. Some people say the board will automatically run the ram at the slower speed. Doesn't always happen and, when it does work, it can still result in random non-boots because the ram isn't supported by the board. I'm in the biz and get rigs in all the time that customers have built and can't get to boot or run right. Almost every time its a compatibility issue. No sense in buying ram the board doesn't support. It's more expensive, won't run at DDR2 800 and may end up giving you headaches. If you want to run DDR2 800 ram then buy a board that supports it otherwise go with high-end low latency ram your board will run then bump it up. The foundation of building a nice problem-free tower is using only compatible hardware that the motherboard supports.
